The Perth and Kinross schools’ annual Musicathon involved pupils across the region finding sponsorship for their individual performances. The funds were raised in aid of the Perth and Kinross Music Foundation.
PKMF chairperson, Mhairi Mackinnon, was delighted to accept a cheque for £2381 on behalf of the foundation. “There are many families who look to us each year for help with the costs of instrumental instruction in school,” said Mrs Mackinnon.
One pupil raised £97 and so topped it up to £100 with £3 of her own pocket. Another played her trumpet at a family wedding and then took up a collection from the guests!
Kinross High School pupil, Cally Evans, seen here presenting the cheque, together with Music Coordinator Mr Allan Young, played her violin in her classes during the week, to the delight of all her teachers and fellow classmates.
“I know this represents a fantastic effort by the young musicians,” said Mrs Mackinnon. “We thank all the players and their music instructors who have clearly worked hard to promote this event.”
Perth and Kinross Music Foundation’s next fundraiser will take place at 7.30pm, on Wednesday 5th March, in the Assembly Hall at North Inch Community Campus. Among those scheduled to perform are the Elementary String Orchestra, Perthshire Youth Brass, Jamboree, Oakbank Primary School Dancers, the Perth Academy Ceilidh Group and the Perth and Kinross Guitar Group.
